Labour hit by new poll blow
Paul Waugh, Deputy Political Editor1 Dec 2008
Labour's hopes that its bold economic rescue package would revive its popularity were dealt a blow this weekend with another opinion poll showing the Tories were extending their lead.
Voters also cast doubt on Alistair Darling's bid to stimulate growth by cutting VAT, with just six per cent saying they would spend more, while 26 per cent said they would reduce purchases.
The survey, carried out by Ipsos Mori for the Observer, put the Opposition up three percentage points to 43 - an 11-point advantage over the Government which dropped five to 32. The Liberal Democrats also gained three points to 15 per cent.
