Candle vigil for Mumbai massacre
Plea for peace: the peace vigil in London for the Mumbai terror attack victims

Peace plea at vigil in London

Rashid Razaq
1 Dec 2008

More than 200 people gathered for a candle-lit vigil to remember the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks.

Indians and non-Indians, Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims held prayers and a two-minute silence in London last night to show their solidarity. Standing in front of a flag and photographs of the city, the mourners assembled outside the Indian High Commission on Aldwych to listen to messages of condolence and pleas for unity and peace.

Marketing executive Owais Amiri, 23, originally from Mumbai, spoke to the crowd to call for an end to violence and harmony between different faiths.

Mr Amiri said: "I'm an Indian, I'm a Mumbaiite and I am a Muslim. I feel the same pain that we all do. The terrorists attacked all of us, but we can not let them divide us. They are not Muslims. They are criminals."

There are no less Britons who leave UK to settle down in India for Moksha. Its just about the personal preference where a person prefers to leave. But Steve I strongly disagree with your claim of British label. No Indian I know denies his roots , but if fact feel proud to belong to the land of God.
But I don't understand why we are talking about British and Indians here. Do you not agree with the plea event that happened. Do you not feel any condolence for those who died irrespective who and where they died.
If this would have happened in any other part of world, I would have felt the same grief and would participate in any plea for peace.
War is not good for anyone.
May god grant you peace.

Vijay,
That's all very well, but the British never claimed to be the indigenous race of the countries they migrated too, unlike the people who choose to live here and adopt the British label purely because their own countries of origin leave a hell of a lot to be desired!

Eddie,
Why did all those white Britons leave the UK and illegally migrate to what is the USA, Canada, Australia, India, NZ, South Africa,Zimbabwe, stealing land form the locals, causing violent crime (when they were robbing the natives)
You are so ignorant Eddie

If they care that much for their countrymen why not hold the vigil out there? Why leave India in the first place?
