ANNA WILES wants to buy her five-year-old son Luke a bike to make sure he gets outside in the new year.

The 40-year-old, from Kensington, who was shopping last night with her son at Cycle Surgery in Kensington High Street, said: "As a family, we're most definitely outside people. We want to buy him a bike so he's outdoors exercising as much as possible." She said it did not surprise her that more and more parents are choosing bikes for their children this Christmas.

Mrs Wiles added: "It makes sense that people want their kids exercising in the fresh air. Children these days spend far too much of their time playing computer games. Luke likes his Nintendo, but we try and limit it as much as possible."

Mark Neal, 33, the assistant manager at Cycle Surgery, said they have seen a significant increase in children's bike sales.
