Trig, Track... now Tripp joins the Palin family

THE teenage daughter of former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has given birth to a son and named him Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, it is reported today.

Bristol Palin, 18, gave birth on Sunday, People magazine reported online. Tripp weighed 7lb 4oz, and Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol's grandmother, said: "The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well."

Bristol made headlines when her mother announced in September, on the first day of the Republican National Convention, that her unwed daughter was pregnant. The campaign issued a statement saying Bristol "and the young man" would get married.

Levi Johnston's mother eventually disclosed that her 18-year-old son was the father. Tthe announcement that unmarried Bristol was pregnant prompted concerns that it could damage Mrs Palin's credibility as a religious conservative.

The Alaska governor's office did not comment on the birth.

Mrs Palin and her husband, Todd, have five children ranging in age from Trig, seven months, to Track, 19.

They all sound like brand names in a local Alaskan Bait and Tackle store.

The next offspring may be called Wriggly or Hot-strike

Is she single handedly trying to increase the population of Alaska? Perhaps that's the only way she can get votes.

Tripp, Track, Trig sounds like the hoofs of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" crossing the bridge where the troll lived. Where do people get these names? I feel sorry for them when they go to school and get teased about their names. Since the Palins are deeply religious, I would think Matthew, Mark, Luke or John would certainly be more appropriate!
