Bienvenue to arts season from France

Louise Jury, Chief Arts Correspondent

THE first season in Britain of French performing arts starts this weekend.

Contemporary drama, circus and dance will be shown at about 20 venues, many in London, in a seven-month festival. The French Institute has worked with the British Council, the Arts Council and others to bring the most cutting edge performers to England.

Laurence Auer, from the Institute, said: "In the performing arts, even the most popular playwrights in France are unknown here."
