Gambling on the house market
Evening Standard12.01.09
In November, property developer MIA Developments Ltd launched a prize draw for an £8million block of flats in Whitechapel to raise £600,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Up to 200,000 tickets to win the entire development of 11 apartments are being given to people who buy a £60 MP4 player.
In August 2007, former estate agent Angela Jones, 37, who tried to raffle her £150,000 house in Flintshire, Wales was ordered to pay back nearly £8,000 after a judge ruled she broke gaming laws.
Last September, the seller of a two-bedroom garden flat in Highgate, Sam Grief, 39, launched an online auction - with bidders paying a £75 entry fee - to enable her to reach the property's £425,000 asking price. The winner is the person who submits the lowest unique bid.

Interesting competition! What a great prize and nice to see Great Ormond St Hospital benefiting from this as well.
Lately I keep on coming across new house competitions in the UK but quite a few seem to be having issues with the gambling commission, paypal etc even today:

Does anyone know of a property raffle that completed successfully? I guess a big company like MIA will have sorted out all the details, it will be interesting to see who wins the big prize!
