Mandy's staff on Facebook

Joe Murphy, Political Editor
12 Jan 2009

PETER Mandelson's officials are allowed to log onto Facebook at work but Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon's staff are banned.

The different rules show Whitehall has yet to establish proper rules for the internet age.

A survey found that staff in many departments are allowed to save data to computer memory sticks without encrypting it.

The departments of Transport, Children and Families, and Health all failed to insist on encryption, while Lord Mandelson's Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, and Jack Straw's Ministry of Justice, did.

Glad to see my tax is being usefully applied to allow a bunch of civil servants to spend time on WasteofSpaceBook.

You would think they had better things to do than mess about with childish nonsense like this. But then again, this is the Labour government we're talking about so maybe not!
