Council sees the Light and saves bar

A CELEBRITY-LED campaign may have temporarily saved a popular bar from being demolished to make way for a £500million City development.

Hackney council is to recommend The Light in Shoreditch High Street should be included within a conservation area after being lobbied by artists Tracey Emin and Rachel Whiteread and Madness singer Suggs.

If a conservation order is passed, Lord Foster's Bishop's Place scheme would have to be redesigned to accommodate the venue, which is inside a former Great Eastern Railway electricity station.
