PC cleared of Sol race abuse

A POLICEMAN arrested for racist and homophobic abuse against Sol Campbell has cleared his name by proving he was playing football at the time.

Probationer Constable Christopher King, 20, was arrested and suspended after he was picked out on CCTV film of fans abusing the Portsmouth defender during a match against Tottenham last September.

But Mr King was playing for a minor league team near Witham, Essex - 130 miles from Portsmouth. The Spurs fan said: "They acknowledged I was nowhere near there. I would never take part in such behaviour or condone it."

Police in Hampshire have charged 11 people over the alleged chanting.
