A MURDER inquiry was launched today after a pensioner died after being robbed and thrown to the ground in Harrow.

The 81-year-old died in hospital early today after she was attacked in the street last night.

Police said a man grabbed the frail woman's bag as she was walking along Streatfield Road and ran off.

During the robbery the woman fell to the ground and suffered head injuries.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at about 8pm.

The woman - who has not been named - was taken to Northwick Park Hospital where her condition worsened during the night. She died shortly before 4am.

Police appealed for witnesses to the attack and said that it appeared the woman had been injured when the man grabbed her bag.

A spokesman said there had been no arrests so far.

Streatfield Road is a busy and save road. It is a shock to hear the bad news. Lots of us on the road are concerned.
