The moment De Menezes was shot dead on Tube ... recreated in TV docu-drama

THESE images recreate the moment Jean Charles de Menezes was mistakenly shot dead on the Tube.

They are from a drama documentary charting the fateful events leading to the death of the Brazilian at the hands of police marksmen. They are shown firing at Mr de Menezes at point-blank range as they wrongly believed he was failed 21/7 bomber Hussain Osman.

The hour-long programme, Stockwell, is on ITV1 at 9pm tonight and follows the police surveillance and firearms teams in the hours leading up to the 27-year-old electrician's death in a Tube carriage at Stockwell station on 22 July 2005.

Based on testimony given during a trial and inquest, the drama shows a catalogue of police errors, from the failure to have firearms officers in place on time, a communications breakdown, and the lack of a direct order to shoot, but, as in the official inquiry, stops short of blaming individual officers.

Director Jonathan Rudd defended the decision to tackle the sensitive subject. He said: "It is an important story and of great public interest."
