Kennedy's seizure due to 'fatigue'

VETERAN senator Edward Kennedy will be released from hospital today after suffering a seizure during the post inauguration celebrations.

Doctors said his collapse at a lunch for the new president was due to fatigue and not linked to his brain cancer.

But the frailty of the 76-year-old raises concerns about his ability to return full time to the US Senate.

He was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour last May and underwent an operation to remove the cancer. He has refused to let it curtail his involvement in US politics.

But the illness increases the pressure on his niece Caroline Kennedy as she tries to win Hillary Clinton's senate seat for New York and continue the family's political legacy.
