Mother of octuplets too weak to hold her babies

THE mother of only the second set of octuplets to be born alive has still to meet and hold her newborn children.

The Los Angeles hospital where the unnamed woman gave birth said she was still not well enough to see the six boys and two girls.

A spokesman for the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center said it could be days before the Californian woman is well enough. She is still recovering from the Caesarean section operation she underwent on Monday when the babies were born nine weeks prematurely.

Doctors in the town of Bellflower said that the children - known as A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H - were doing well and breathing on their own.

A hospital spokesman said: "They are all now breathing on their own. None are on ventilators. The mum continues to do well too. She has only seen them at the birth and seen photographs. There is some recovery time for her operation, she cannot go wandering around the hospital to see the babies."
