Emma's paper flight of fancy
Danny Brierley28.01.09
CELEBRITIES have sketched designs on paper planes for a protest against the aviation industry.
Actress Emma Thompson, a critic of the third runway at Heathrow, has drawn on a plane to be released in Covent Garden tomorrow.
Her drawing, along with sketches by singer James Blunt and artist Dinos Chapman, is part of environmental group Green Thing's Stay Grounded campaign.
James Alexander, chief executive of Green Thing, said: "The start of a new year is when people look to book their holidays and we hope the campaign will encourage people to consider alternative transport where they can when planning their journey."
Members of the public who find planes flown from the Hospital Club in Endell Street will be able to keep them.

You know what? I like Emma Thompson, and am proud of what she's doing for the environment. It's not like she's going to stop traveling by plane, nor are any of us, but she's doing what she can (more than most of us are able) to help the earth. Bravo, Ms. Thompson.
Oh, and Margaret- She's not a grandmother, luv, her daughter's only 9.

This lady is a mother and a grandmother. To throw paper about in middle of town (or anywhere) is a very bad example. Now when we see all the children throwing their fast food vessels over the garden walls we will wonder, "Are they the descendents of the unthinking actress?"

I don't know who this woman is but I don't agree with littering. To me that is an environmental offence and I think the rest of us should go down there and give them a group citizens arrest. See how they like that, the do-gooding hypocritters!

And there was me hoping we'd get the pleasure of watching Ms Thompson and her luvvie mates wrassling the planes back off them!

So next time Ms Thompson gets nominated for an Oscar (in her dreams), she'll be traveling to Hollywood by bus, will she?

More litter for London. Brilliant!

I look forward to hearing of the alternative methods of transport Emma "can I screech and pull my face into enough contortions to distract everyone from noticing I always play the same character" Thompson will be taking from this day forwards and forever more.
