Iceland to appoint lesbian PM

Evening Standard
28.01.09

ICELAND is set to appoint the world's first openly-gay woman prime minister.

Former flight attendant Johanna Sigurdardottir, 66, the island nation's social affairs minister, is the choice of the Social Democratic Alliance Party to lead an interim government.

A conservative-led government failed on Monday in the wake of the country's economic collapse.

Ms Sigurdardottir's appointment is expected to be confirmed by a new ruling coalition of the Alliance party and Left-Green movement. She would lead Iceland until a general election in May.

But i don't understand, is make any difference if she is lesbian?
Is time that the reporters and newspapers start to cut all these comments.

- T., London

Well, at least Iceland is a working democracy where the ministers quit if they are useless and they are not led by unelected Lords etc etc.

Trust the Scandinavians to set the lead in this. More and more countries are expected to follow.
