Senator accused of $25m Travolta plot

A former Bahamas senator is escorted from a courtroom by police after being granted bail on charges of conspiring to help extort $25 million from John Travolta.
Pleasant Bridgewater was not required to enter a plea when she appeared in court in Nassau in the Bahamas yesterday. It is alleged that she and an ambulance driver approached the Travolta family in an attempt to extort cash over information related to their son Jett's death. Police say Bridgewater allegedly helped the paramedic who threatened to release a document concerning the star's 16-year-old son.
Jett died of a seizure this month at the family holiday home on Grand Bahama island. Police say that the plot concerned a threat to embarrass Travolta with a document that released medical crews from liability for not taking his son to a Bahamian hospital.
The paperwork would have been required for Travolta to fly his son to a US hospital rather than take him to one in the Bahamas, but police say it was not used.
Celebrity news website TMZ.com has reported that Travolta considered flying his son to Florida before he was driven to a hospital.
