£10 safari suit for Attenborough
Louise Jury, Chief Arts Correspondent30 Jan 2009
IT IS an expenses claim very few could justify. When David Attenborough set off more than 50 years ago to find the Komodo dragon in Indonesia, he knew exactly what he needed.
Top of his claim on 17 April, 1956, was one tropical suit, price £10. With other items, including six pairs of long stockings, the total bill was £20.10.
The details for the six-week expedition are among archive material made available by the BBC online today. All six episodes of Zoo Quest, the programmes which made Attenborough's name, will also be available online.
The archive is on www.bbc.co.uk/archive/Attenborough.
