Railway cancellations

Evening Standard
2 Feb 2009

SOUTHEASTERN was forced to cancel all services into London with no trains running into Cannon Street, Charing Cross and parts of London Bridge and Victoria.

Southern, with routes from the South Coast into Victoria, was forced to reduce services to just one or two trains an hour. South West Trains into mainline Waterloo suffered a much reduced service. Through London Thameslink services, run by First Capital Connect, and First Great Western trains into Paddington were also among the worst hit.

National Express East Anglia and the Stansted Express suffered severe delays.

A Southeastern spokeswoman said: "All services into London are suspended - we may be able to run a few trains around the Kent coast later."

There were delays of up to an hour on the East Coast Main Line into King's Cross. Other services north of the Thames are running but also with delays.

Now your folks have a rough idea of what winter is like over here, except we get 2 to 3 feet here in southern Ontario. When you outside and you can not find your car, that is a snow storm. Cheer up, your spring arrives about 2 months before ours.

Mr Preston

The cause of the disruption is quite simple, it's white, wet and laying in 6 inch piles on the ground. I managed to work 7 hours from 5am this morning providing Customer Service and Route information to passengers who were stranded as did several thousand of my colleagues across the Capital.

Time to grow up and get one's facts straight methinks....

It is pathetic!

The snow isn't that bad. The railways should be able to withstand the few inches of snow we've had here in the South East.

Network Rail and the operators should face heavy fines.

This report gives no clue as to the cause of the disruption. Another wildcat strike by extremist trade unionists no doubt.

I did love the helpful Southeastern Website earlier today:

The following services are currently running as normal:

* x to x via x
* x to x via x
* x to x via x
* x to x via x
* x to x via x

Marvellous.
