A 16-year-old girl died after crashing through a barbed wire fence on a sledge.

Francesca Anobile, of Sheffield, was injured with three other girls in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, yesterday when their sledge - which was made from a car roof -went through a barbed-wire fence and then smashed into another.

How terribly tragic that, whilst thousands enjoyed the snow, this young girl should have died. My thoughts go out to her family at this time. Let us hope that, because of a freak accident, health and safety do not intervene in such a spontaneous sporting event which has been occurring over many generations.
