Slumdog Millionaire scooped another prestigious prize when its co-star, Freida Pinto, was named best actress at the Elle Style awards.

Her success came just 24 hours after Slumdog won seven Baftas. Pinto, 24, narrowly missed out on a Bafta, despite being shortlisted for best supporting actress playing opposite Dev Patel in Danny Boyle's rags-to-riches Indian tale.

A very stylish Sarah Brown was a surprise guest. Wearing a silk jersey dress by Ben De Lisi, the Prime Minister's wife said she was there to promote British fashion and to boost awareness of the White Ribbon Alliance charity for pregnant mothers.

Mickey Rourke added to his Bafta success by picking up the Elle best actor award for his cinematic comeback in The Wrestler. Courtney Love, former singer with the band Hole and Kurt Cobain's widow, was named woman of the year and hailed by Elle as an icon of "old school grunge".

Sienna Miller took the style icon award in recognition of her "unique, fashion-forward style" at Big Sky in Holloway.

In the television categories, Alexa Chung was crowned best star and the BBC sitcom Gavin And Stacey won best series.

Following the success of their album Only By The Night, the Kings of Leon accepted their award for best music via videolink.

Designer Christopher Kane and model Rosie Huntington-Whitley, touted as the new Kate Moss, were also honoured in two of the 15 award categories.
