Boris Johnson on Twitter: Cripes, I've been caught cycling inside City Hall

The Mayor has been caught riding his bicycle inside City Hall.

Boris Johnson has apologised to security guards and posted an online note of contriteness on his Twitter website over the incident.

The keen cyclist wrote on the messaging service made popular by television personalities Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry: "Just been told off for cycling inside City Hall. Sorry security!"

It is not the first time the Mayor's love of cycling has landed him in trouble with the authorities.

In May last year undercover reporters filmed him riding through a series of red lights, failing to stop at a zebra crossing and mounting a pavement while on his way to work at City Hall.

Mr Johnson subsequently promised to be more careful. He has also been criticised over his refusal to wear a helmet while cycling.

Despite Mr Johnson's admission of guilt over his latest misdemeanour, a City Hall spokeswoman refused to comment.

What 'they' can't get their heads round is that Boris has a personality and a sense of fun - something totally lacking in politics these days. More's the pity.
