Crocodile ate boy, five, as he played on river bank
Ed Harris18 Feb 2009
A BOY aged five who vanished from an Australian river bank was eaten by a crocodile, police said today.
The remains of Jeremy Doble were found in the stomach of a 14ft male crocodile trapped in the flooded Daintree River, an international tourist site near Canberra close to where the boy vanished on 8 February.
Jeremy was playing with his seven-year-old brother Ryan and their dog behind their family home in a flooded mangrove swamp when he disappeared. Ryan told police he saw a crocodile immediately after but did not see an attack.
Jeremy's parents, who run crocodile-spotting tours, asked police not to kill the animal, a newspaper reported. Authorities said it could go to a zoo.

If the parents asked for it not to be killed and the 'Authorities' said it could go to a zoo, how on earth do they know the kid is in it stomach??? This sounds like just another Crocodile Dundee story trying to entice us to go to sunny Oz for our holidays!

Being swallowed by a crocodile in real life is clearly not as much fun as it looks in cartoons. Kids can easily be misled by the capers of their animated heroes. More should be spent emphasising that children and crocs don't make happy playmates.
