Sympathy: Jade Goody

We should applaud Jade, I wish her well, says Brown

GORDON BROWN today expressed his sympathy for Jade Goody, saying he wished her well in her cancer battle.

The Prime Minister said it was "sad" and "tragic" that the reality TV star, 27, had fallen victim to the disease.

Speaking during his monthly news conference at Downing Street, he said: "It's very sad and indeed tragic that someone so young has got this deadly disease of cancer and it's very sad indeed that the treatment that has been given has not been successful."

Goody was told by doctors last week that her cervical cancer was terminal and she had only months to live. She has deliberately used media coverage of her illness to raise money for children, Bobby, five, and Freddie, four, before she dies.

Mr Brown added: "I think everyone has their own ways of dealing with these problems and her determination to help her family is something that we've got to applaud. I wish her well and I wish her family well and I think the whole country will be worried and anxious about her health."

His comments came as Goody left the Royal Marsden Hospital for a short time today to try on her £3,500 silk mikado dress for her hastily-arranged wedding to Jack Tweed, 21, that will earn her about £1.5 million at the weekend. Goody has struck a deal with OK! magazine for exclusive print coverage. Her wedding will also be filmed by Living TV, which has been following her throughout her illness.

She will marry Tweed, a former electrician, at Down Hall country house hotel, eight miles from Goody's home in Ongar, Essex. She and Tweed plan to have a civil ceremony with about 100 family and friends followed by a reception.

Charities say there has been a surge in the number of women booking smear tests since the publicity surrounding Goody's cancer battle.

I thought the tattooed eyebrows were a bit of a mistake when she had it done a few weeks ago but she was totally right, it looks great now.

I am sorry for Goody but she is hardly a person of national importance. Has Brown not got anything better to worry about or is he wanting to project himself as a man of the people?

Typical of Brown to jump on a bandwagon. No doubt he was first to slag her off when she was chucked out of celebrity big brother.

Does Crash have a comment to make on EVERYthing EXCEPT how he's going to sort out the economy?
