Londoner to be freed from Guantanamo man set for return to UK

BINYAM MOHAMED, the former London resident held at Guantanamo Bay for more than four years, may be returned to Britain next week.

The 30-year-old could be released as early as Monday, according to the Washington Post, however the Foreign Office would not confirm the report.

Ethiopian-born Mohamed was detained in Pakistan in 2002 after allegedly meeting members of the Taliban and other extremists. He claims he was tortured into falsely confessing to terrorist activities, and that MI5 officers were complicit in the abuse.

Although not a British citizen, the Government is expected to accept his return because he had indefinite leave to remain in the UK before his detention.
