Gangs' lethal 'hand spikes' intercepted

Danny Brierley

TEENAGE gangs in London are importing a new weapon that has the potential to rip their enemies to shreds.

Customs officers have intercepted parcels from the US containing "hand spikes" - three-foot-long steel blades attached to a glove. The tomahawk skull gauntlet costs £40 and is like those worn by Wolverine in the X-Men films. Two of the weapons, bound for Peckham, were intercepted at Coventry Airport last week.

A police source said: "The gangs see the weapon as the last word in one-upmanship."

Richard Taylor, father of Damilola Taylor who was murdered in Peckham in 2000, said: "There is no justification for this weapon on Britain's streets."

So are they saying that these are already on the streets?

It seems utterly redundant to try and stop these things from appearing on the streets, the case should be brought to the companies who design and create these things. What purpose is there to create yet more weapons with which our children can kill each other?

None.
