Monster: Fritzl fathered seven children with his captive daughter

Austrians flock to premiere of satire on Fritzl’s incest

A satirical play about Josef Fritzl, who held his daughter captive in a basement for 24 years and fathered seven children with her, has sold out in Vienna.

There was a police presence for the premiere at the Anatomie theatre last night. Playwright Hubsi Kramar said Pension F tackles media coverage of the case.

“Behind the brazen, feigned theatre of sympathy are hardcore profit interests,” he said, adding that he had received death threats.

The play was promoted with the line: “In the cellar, under the carpet, you can't get any lower than that.”

Fritzl goes on trial next month.

As if that poor woman and her children haven't suffered enough, now their years of torment are being turned into entertainment? Sickening! I can't believe the authorities are allowing it to go ahead and wonder if there is some connection between the public flocking to it and the fact this happened in a country where people would flock to such a thing. Makes me glad I live in England, and I haven't said that for a while!
