Brown talks to US Congress

Joe Murphy, Political Editor
25 Feb 2009

GORDON BROWN will address both Houses of Congress when he visits Washington next week.

He is only the fifth Premier to be given the honour, following Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee, Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy was said to be seething that the British leader had beaten him to the new White House. It was being claimed that Mr Sarkozy blotted his chances by spelling President Obama's name wrongly on a handwritten note of congratulation on his election, spelling it "Barak".

The French leader worked hard at his relationship with Mr Obama, lavishing praise on him during a visit to Paris, in contrast with the more even-handed stance of Mr Brown.

Who in their right mind would want to meet this repugnant little man. Roll on the general election.
