Flashpoint: Muslim extremists hold up placards and shout abuse at returning soldiers from the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment in Luton

Muslims insult returning troops

Muslim extremists hurled abuse at British soldiers during a homecoming procession in Luton today.

About 20 men held up banners and placards reading: "Anglian Soldiers Butchers of Basra", and "Baby killers." The 2nd Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment, returning from their second tour in Iraq, encountered the group shouting "Terrorists" and "Anglian Soldiers Go to Hell", outside Luton Town Hall.

As the parade by the 200 soldiers and a military band finished in St George's Square, police forced the protesters into a small area by the Arndale Shopping Centre to keep them apart from a large number of locals, some waving Union and St George's flags and shouting: "Scum" and "No surrender to the Taliban." The two groups yelled insults as police dogs and riot vans were called to the scene.

It is quite ironic that they are using the very freedoms protected by the Forces in this country and that the Forces are fighting to give to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan to carry out this abuse. If they dislike this country and what we stand for so much perhaps they might wish to live in a country where they would not have these freedoms. Also, once again the police farce have used a 2 tier system in regards this abuse. This was not a peaceful protest, the language used , both written and spoken was abusive and designed to incite violence and hatred, so why were they not arrested immediately? Had a group of people stood outside a mosque,Iraqi embassy or anywhere else and used similar sentiments they would have been arrested before you could say freedom of speech.
Oh and as for jim@sea, you will find the Scots, Welsh and Irish are very proud of what they/we have achieved, so I'm not quite sure of your point.

This is democracy at its best.
Nothing was hurt other than feelings.
Let them try and do this in the countries that they allege they are protecting.

Just remember this when you are choosing who to shout and protest at:

Soldier are SENT to war
Politicians GO to war

This sort of behavior makes me ashamed that we have done nothing to make this sort of behavior totally unacceptable in our streets. Did my grandfather fight in the trenches in the First World War,and did my Father do 2 tours in the RAF to provide a safe haven for ethnic minorities who as soon as they are on our shores insult our heritage and traditions. I salute the Soldiers who marched through Luton and if Gordon Brown wants to put up Income Tax to support our armed forces I would not object. I'm not British, I'm English, and the Welsh and the Scottish should stand up and be proud of what we have achieved.

these people are a disgrace to their country and Islam. The least they can do as British Citizens is support our troops, if they disagree with government policy then direct their protests at the politicians.
