I want to see flag of Allah flying over Downing St
David Cohen13.03.09
A Muslim fundamentalist leader today told of his vision of Britain under Sharia law.
Anjem Choudary said he wanted the “flag of Allah” flying over Downing Street, all women wearing burkas and caning for drunkenness.
He is the leader of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah, founded as a successor to the banned fundamentalist sect al-Muhajiroun, which was led by now-exiled preacher Omar Bakri Muhammad.
The self-proclaimed Sharia judge admitted his followers had organised protests against British soldiers in Luton this week, waving placards which called them “murderers” for their conduct in Iraq.
Mr Choudary, a 41-year-old lawyer, said he was proud to be reviled. “It's inevitable that when you offer an alternative morality and way of life many people will hate you for it.”
He said this “alternative morality” would mean “a pure Islamic state with Sharia law in Britain” and added: “Every woman, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, would have to wear a traditional burka and cover everything apart from her face and hands in public.”
“In matters to do with the judicial system and the penal code, one male witness is sufficient to counter the testimony of two females. People who commit adultery would be stoned to death.”
Mr Choudary, a father of three, admitted he lived off benefits despite objecting to the British state. He rejected suggestions of hypocrisy, saying: “I don't think it's of any importance.”

Many here have stated this fellow is a lone loony in a crowd of common sense. Well for starter's check out the panorama, undercover mosques edition. This is available on you tube. Here you will discover that his views are very widely held within the muslim population, no-matter what some will have you believe.
There was also surveys done by respectable opion poll companies that stated a huge minority, something like 40% of british muslims want sharia law in this country.
Islam is a wicked and vicious faith as nick griffin stated and the loony left labour government tried to jail him for saying.
wake up people

Guys, wake up and do away with troublemakers like this!! Brits might make fun of or insult us Americans from time to time, but I'll say this - nobody here would sit and tolerate his virulent hate speech here. We will fight tooth and nail to defend out way of life. If he wants Sharia law he should have stayed in his own country. Simple as that. The vast majority of Muslims in the UK and USA just want to live in peace with their neighbours and be productive citizens. What Choudary doesn't seem to realize is that he's only making life harder for his fellow Muslims, who because of his idiocy and bigotry will be looked upon with suspicion. He needs to re-read the Q'uran, especially the verse where Muhammad states there should be no compulsion in religion.

I cant belive someone could actually be this retarded! I mean im a practicing muslim myself, but this is crazy. this is englad, and its not really a religious country, even if it was it has to a christian country, theres no place for shariah laws. i mean Iran is under shariah laws and there isnt much freedom there. religion is a personal thing and they are not made to rule a country.

One cannot wish another person Merry Christmas anymore. That has been replaced by Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, and the latest one Happy Winter. Why? Because someone overhearing that greeting may be offended.
------
What will the police do to you if you say "Merry Christmas"? Does NYPD arrest you? Do kids get expelled for saying a prayer in school, or do they get criticized for leading a GROUP prayer?
You should make yourself aware that this entire argument about the WAR ON CHRISTMAS AND RELIGION was a pro-Nazi anti-Jew argument spawned by Henry Ford in 1921, in his Dearborn paper and his book The International Jew.
Yeah, it's been re-worked a bit, it's no longer a hatred of Jew-Commies, now it's "Liberals" vs. Jew-Christians, but it's still the same slam. It's an attempt to reverse the Liberal Enlightenment Era that founded America, and return to the Dark Ages and Feudalism.
It was bulloney when the Christian-Nazis were pushing it along with Jew-bashing back then, and it's bulloney today. (And there *were* literally big organized Christian groups marching for Hitler in America. Use your Google.)

John Whittle; You hit the nail right on the head. Here in the U.S. there is an anti-Christian agenda being pushed on us by the radical left. All of the Christian and Jewish ethics that built the country of my forefathers and the West are being squeezed out of our society. One cannot wish another person Merry Christmas anymore. That has been replaced by Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, and the latest one Happy Winter. Why? Because someone overhearing that greeting may be offended. In my opinion the U.S. began to slide downhill when prayer was removed from public schools. Back in the '50s if someone didn't want to salute the flag, pray, or read the Bible when classes started in the morning they didn't have to. I believe that the West must return to its Judeo-Christian roots and stop giving away our heritage.

Who the hell does he think he is spouting this rubbish. The UK is a state with 4%> muslims and he thinks all must wear burkas and the flag of allah must fly overr downing street? People cannot say anything to him just because he is muslim and we must not offend our muslim brothers... Well guess what. This nutcase has offended me with his hate-filled ideology but does the government care if a white, non-muslim is offended? Most likely not.
Wake up britain. Dont be bullied by this small minority.
- Spg, Birmingham, UK
Will someone please tell us how is it that this puffed up Muslim assume the right to free speech, but when it comes to Christians wanting to have their say, they are ridiculed, insulted, and pursecuted by Muslims, even arrested by the police for speaking their mind. Like the man who said that santa clause is a fake and nothing more than a fantasy. He was placed under arrest by some idiot police officer. Those who speak out against abortions and the murder of unborn children are often ridiculed. Those who speak their mind on the issue of same sex relationships, are branded as homophobic. This excuse for a civilised earthling has the audacity to say such things and hope that people will kowtow to him. Just look at the smug look of superiority on his face as if he owns the whole world.

In Bruxelle, capital of your beloved European Union, Islam will become the most practiced religion in next 15-20 years. Birth rates in Europe are fastly dropping and substitution process of native people is happening. Do you think is not possible that nations and cultures die? Read history
- Spaniard, ...
Keith, David, you're looking at a European province here, not a country. The U.K. was at one time a country, but that's now gone. As long as Brussels dictates the policies here, such as open-door immigration, the people of this province will have no say in the matter. Just like people in Ohio can complain about who is entering the U.S. The British have had 40 years of government that favoured the European provincial model, and now it's a de facto province. The Lisbon Treaty makes it into a de jure province. Every issue that the British are presently complaining about comes down to this: you no longer have a sovereign country in which you call the shots. You now live in a country of 400,000,000. Get used to it.
- Phil Jones, London UK
Why are people taking this man seriously? There are thousands of people of all beliefs who have crackpot ideas about how the rest of us should live, and we should be happy enough to know they will live their little lives continually frustrated that they will never get what they want in this country. We are to blame if we decide to give this particular fringe loony the publicity he so obviously desires or show the annoyance he wants us to feel at his views. We should be more confident in the ability of our country to withstand bigotry and hate. As for state benefits - If he's legally entitled to them give them to him, if he's not, take them away - we can't make such decisions based on our dislike of someone's political views.
- Leon, Bromley
This extremist's views are perhaps not representative of the UK Muslim community. However, it is time that they started to speak out and dissociate themselves from extremists.
Christians in this country tend to profess their faith quietly and decently, even though I do not believe any of it myself. Why is it that Islam has this need in public to shout and rave, protest and annoy, and make insulting and frightening remarks? They can do what they like in their Mosques but I'd rather not hear any more from them.
There are more important things of concern to most people, these days, than religion. It is a pity that Anjem Choudary does not use his talents to benefit mankind rather than worry them.
- Lester May, London
Whose country is this? I have no problem with multiculturalism but not when it is trying to overtake the British way of life. What is this guy thinking suggesting that whether Muslim or not, British people have to live according to their rules? Anyone who wants to live in this country should adhere to our way of life & if they don't like it, they should leave. This is not what so many people died in two world wars & carry on dying in Iraq & Afghanistan defending is it? I am frankly disgusted that this lunatic is even being given time of day. If he doesn't like our country as it currently stands, he should leave. The only reason he is here is because our government is such a soft touch. I have no problem with Muslims but this is going too far. This is (or at least was) Great Britain not Little Basra.
- Keith Oakes, Epping, Essex
Why is this man still being aloud to claim benifits. Why has he got time to be protesting. The benifits office should be looking at these people and stopping their benifits as they are not looking for work.
- David, Leigh on sea
Oh no, not another enemy within, living off benefits. This country has gone mad and can no longer look after it's best interests. It's become a basket case, strangled by political correctness, very sad
- David, Fleet UK
I live in London and am surrounded by Muslims every day. I don't feel threatened by them any more than any other community that at one time had the 'terrorist' label attatched to them and were responsible for bombings.
This is a minority view, the utterings of a single male Muslim who most people would dismiss as a fool even fellow muslims. Many people have alternative views and not all are sheep. For his views he should not be receiving 'benefits' Those who have no intention of 'offereing' as he put it Sharia Law should be entitled to benefits equal to other citizen of this country if entitled to it. Maybe the journalist should interview those Muslims and publish those with the capacity for logical discourse instead of focusing on the desires of a very insecure sounding man and giving him credence.

Why was an article like this written in the first place? And then chosen as a front page news. I would say, in order to sell more papers. Economics should never be put in front of the moral. Why advertise a 'simple man's view on 'future Britan', including views on british women's place in it. This does not help Britain, or british way of life. This is a free advertising that will help form a possible 'critical mass' for 'a simple man's thought'. Why take notice of that at all?If we allow it, it will thrive. There are better ways of dealing with people like this. At least don't give them pleasure of seeing 'their ideas' on each newspaper stand.
- S.Ster, London
As a Muslim, I'd like to say that this man does NOT speak for ME personally. I hate stories about people who refuse to live with other faiths in existence.
C'mon... it's 2009... what's with all the "we're better than others" BS? It's causing us more problems then we really need. I am a Muslim, but am saddened because stuff like this makes make this world harder for me to live in due to prejudices and stereotyping that we all think this way.
- Sam, Los Angeles, CA
"I wouldn't worry too much about Sharia Law being put into place in Britain anytime soon"
Patrick, wake up and smell the coffee, its already here. Sharia courts operate within several different 'communities', and they seem to have the blessing of our Government.
There was an anti-sharia protest march last weekend in London, organised by the One Law For All Campaign. Six hundred people turned up - if the next one (I hope there is another) has better publicity, I'll be on it.
Sharia is a vile oppression of freedom. Women especially, are at risk of cruel and violent punishment. The sharia courts in this country mean that a section of our society is at risk of being mentally and physically abused, and our government is turning a blind eye.
- Geoff, Southampton UK
I would like to assert that Islam does not require blood-shed and certainly not hatred. The views presented by Mr.Chaudary does not represent views of all muslims and so should not be taken into account in judging anything. According to Holy books all humans are equal and like-wise no religion discriminates on the basis of faith. In fact if you read books like Torah, Bible and Quran - u will agree the same message exists to ALL mankind but at different times.
- Mohammed Quadri, London, UK

Yeah right. This guys is clearly off his rocker. Making women wear burqas and stoning people? He sounds pretty crazy. He obviously has some issues. Maybe if he wants sharia law, he should go to a country enforcing that law. (Saying this as a British ex-Muslim)
- Oddinnuendo, London
The reason many 'moderate' muslims don't speak out against this is that they simply can't understand why anyone would take this guy seriously. He has no legitmacy, does not speak for anyone sensible (yes, most muslim are sensible) and frankly shouldn't be given a soapbox from which to divide the nation. He is entitled to free speech, but that does not mean he has anything worth listening to. No-one, including the vast majority of british muslims, thinks Sharia here is a good idea - otherwise they would not have moved here.
- Ia, London UK
Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah follow the satanic verses of the so called traditions of the prophet which are all fabricated and unauthorised (as per Quranic injunction), this means that it invalidates their faith and makes them apostates, and out of the fold of Islam as defined by the Quran. They should be banned as the Muhajiroon were, especially that they encourage barbarian practices such as stoning, abuse of women...
- Nabil H, London, UK
Why are there so many apologists defending these people on here?! He's not worth our comments, he's nothing to our daily lives. Honestly it'll never happen. Its just the same scare mongering that used to happen during the cold war of talk of flying communist flags over our cities.
We beat this intolerance not by jumping into bed with people like the BNP or other extremist groups, that is just making matters worse.
What makes our nation great, and yes we are a great nation, is our openness and our resolve. We will overcome this religious hatred. We will survive by keeping our ideals. If we give those up then what is worth keeping?
So I say let us ignore these characters in the press and let our legal system sort them out ![]()

What Mr Choudary did not mention is that, under Shari'a, non-Muslims other than Jews and Christians would be put to death at once if they do not become and remain Muslims.
He is clearly of genocidal disposition. Just retribution for such an endeavour, were he to attempt it, could well involve flying Mr Choudary from the Downing Street flagpole with a rope around his neck.
- Michael, Brighton
I agree with those saying that he is not a true muslim, and people of Britain should not take this as what all muslims believe. In every culture and religion there are those that try and use the people of their culure or faith for their own ends and that is what this man is trying to do. And I wouldn't worry too much about Sharia Law being put into place in Britain anytime soon. I'd like to see this guy go to essex and tell the women its time to cover up.....he'll be offered his own 'alternative morality'. I also agree with those saying this should have been sponsered for something 'funny for money'.

If you choose to live in the UK, you follow the UK laws. Just as if someone from the UK went abroad, they follow their Laws. You do not change the country that you are staying in to the country you came from. What is wrong with people. If you are a foreign citizen and live here (UK) follow our laws and respect our way of living, not try and change it, what is wrong with people?!
- Craig Jones, London
CALLING ALL MODERATE MUSLIMS! Please can you guys organise against these mad mullahs. They are doing you a grave disservice. Protest against them vociferously outside their mosques and organise national demonstrations that everyone can join. I'm sure these mullahs are a lunatic fringe and not truly representative, but it is a very important issue because young people who are trying to find an identity for themselves can be impressionable and drawn to this dogmatic rhetoric. Moderates must make their views known. You are the guardians of the peace. Step up to the plate. We need to work together.
- B Williams, Friern Barnet, UK
These people need to respect our country if they want to live here. We would not be allowed to run amock in their country or demonstrate...........when in Rome and all that. And if they want to fly their flag then its probably best they do that in their country not here after all this is britain and the british flag should be flown.
- Julie -South East, Berkshire
Why are they allow to demand things here, it's not like they would do the same in their countries. This is not an islamic state, if they want to live in an islamic state they should live in an islamic country and stop expecting england to bend over backwards with their demands.

I asked this Pakistani lad who said he didn't want his child to grow up in Britain because of its lax morality why he didn't go back to Pakistan. He said it was because of the corruption there. The hordes waiting at Calais want to claim asylum because their human rights have been abused. If human rights are so widely violated, isn't it time the UN intervened and placed pressure on countries that are its members to respect the human rights of their citizens? It must be obvious even to bodies like the UN and the Council of Europe that great harm will be done to race relations in this country if the native population - both black and white- begins to feel that its majot attraction to new migrants is the milking of its benefits system. British emigrants are expected to be net contributors to the economy of their host countries and not be a drain on their resources and the same should surely apply to any further immigration to this small and already overcrowded island - for all our sakes.

Reading this story, I feel quite sorry for British Muslims. Yet another "Offensive Muslim Extremist" story! There are around 1.5 - 2 million Muslims in this country. I live in an area with many Muslims. They are decent, hard-working, pleasant people. I don't share all of their values, and they don't share all of mine - but we can live together in harmony, prosperity and friendship.
Sadly, many British people have no Muslim friends or colleagues and may therefore think that clowns like Choudhary represent all Muslims. He does not! He is directly fuelling hatred and is a caise of Islamphobia, he is a recruiting serjeant for the BNP.
If there are moves towards greater sharia law in the UK, I predict wide-spread resistance and violence by the indigenous Brits. People in Luton and Watford showed how the public mood is turning angry.
This theocratic supremacist is the greatest threat to a society in which our Muslim friends and neighbours can live alongside the rest of the population, free from suspicion and bigotry.

I want to make just one point on this, although I could make many.
Some time back, a reporter on TV asked a Muslim cleric why, if he did not like Britain's way of life or laws, he didn't go to an Islamic country where his views or Islam are the norm and he might be a lot happier? Perfectly fair question, you might think. His answer was that the world belongs to Allah and Britain belongs to Allah, so he was only doing what Allah's willed to ensure Islam and its laws prevail here.
So, bear that in mind when you ask why they don't go to an Islamic country.
Actually, I think it's more to do with being outcasts or criminals in their own countries that's really the issue, and we're the fools who entertain them.
- Steven Dale, London, England
Why does the public media give a platform to these people. They are the vocal minority. The vast majority of muslims wouldn't know who this man is, he probably has a few hundred (if that) supporters.
I am fed up of being tarred with the same brush as these people. Millions of muslims practice their faith in this country without any problem and are happy living in this country.

Is it possible to have too much Diversity? I stopped 'celebrating' it a couple of years ago. Freedom of speech is very precious and we undermine it at our peril. We cannot restrict it to those we approve of.
- Nigel, London
This guy is really sad. I can't believe he is lowering himself with such silly comments.
- Mark, London
Will the Government do anything - NO - they are the ones who have encouraged this and turned a blind eye, We must be the laughing stock to the rest of the world its about time we stand up and fight against this - OH forgot not PC!!!
- Helen, London
It wont be long!!
- Colin, Bristol
As tolerant as I am this is totally unacceptable.
- John, Heathrow
So why give him the oxygen of publicity? The rant of one lone extremist isn’t particularly news worthy and not representative of most Muslims in the UK so why is it being reported? I suspect the motive is to be divisive and it looks like it’s worked.
- Nj, London
I feel sorry for anyone who believes religious fairy tales to such an extent. If "faith" makes them happy, perhaps it does no harm, but when, inevitably they try to force the Rest of us do what their imaginary diety tells us, we have a fight on our hands to preserve humanity and democracy. Childish explanations of the mystery of existence might be enough for stone age man, but not now.
- Alex Mckenna, Manchester
Target them to get a job. If they are "too ill" to work then find them a job that can fit them - if they are really too ill to do any job then they wouldn't be at the centre of an organisation such as this one.
- Will, London
Maybe Mr. Choudary and his family should move to a Muslim country where they would obviously feel more comfortable.
- Lc, Telford
Soeeaya in Croyden - good for you!
- Sam, Basingstoke, England
let him carry on the more he preaches his extreme views, the less likely it will ever happen. He is only bring to light these views and letting the UK public know that this can never be allowed to happen.
- Terence Harrington, Canterbury, UK
We put up with it - because it a fundamental right of this country for freedom of speech - and as I can't see this gentleman's views actually resulting in a) enough people voting, as per our democracy for this way of thought and b) well if it was sought to bring this in outside of democracy - that I believe would be an illegal act and treated as such.
I really wouldn't worry - as long as everyone who disagrees with such views also follows the democratic process we will be okay.

Poor Britain and poor all of us who love her and can do only so little to save it.
- Dominik Von Muehlberg, Cologne, Germany
If these people want to live within this type of culture why don't they go to live in a country that practices their beliefs and leave us all alone? the reason being they can live a cushy life here claiming benefits for them and their families, 'wanting their cake and eating it' springs to mind.
- Terry, London
These people make my blood boil.
- Casper Slides, Ibiza, Spain
So he's a 'lawyer' yet also 'lives off benefits'. Why does our pathetic government allow people like this to rip us off. If he wants to live in an Islamic state why doesn't he go to Saudi Arabia or Pakistan and see how successful Islamic states are for their citizens.
- Chrisw, London
Words fail me. Can we organise a whip round to send him and his family to someplace he might find comfortable, like the 13th century?
- Helene Davidson, London
These people make me so cross, why do we put up with it. Glad to see that once again someone is living off me through benefits. Is that the only reason he is here, we are too soft, any other country and he would be on his own, scraping out a living for himself.
- Bb, London
OH MY GOD!! this man has is the biggest hypocrite, i dont know what koran he reads or should say, manipulates it to his own ends, but it states in the holy book, that one should not make trouble and mischief in other lands and should obey the laws of that land, READ IT MR CHOUDRAY.
- Sorraya, croyden
lives of the state, puts the country down,no wonder law abiding &taxpaying people are leaving the country whenever possible, thank you my precious goverment
- Robert Phelps, bussiere poitevine 87320 france
In another 30yrs, I can honestly see Britain becoming the first Islamic state in the EU.
- Scott, London
Well the millions of native Britons do not want this. Our history and culture is not Islamic, it is a heritage we cherish. While we accept diversity and freedom of religion, we prefer a secular government. There are many Islamic countries and a Muslim who wishes to live under Sharia law has many options - in their true native locations.
Britain should be respected for what it is, it's religious heritage it Christian, it's government is secular and it's minority religions are given freedom to practice. This desire of Mr Chodary is very disrespectful to the millions of native Britains who have no second country to call homecountry. That he lives here and off benefits and sees no hypocrisy in this tells me that his conscience does not fall very far, it is bought with money. Had he really want to live in true sharia style he has options in many countries, but he would have to work for a living to do so. His logic is weighted by his pocket, faulty and weak. In true Sharia law countries he could not live like this,so hypocrite is truly his name.
- Dona, edinburgh
As an expat I occasionally log on to the ES website to see how things are going back home. So business as usual with the Islamic issue then. What a laugh! This article clearly calls for the usual barrage of enraged commentators. Wonder if anyone can add anything new to the subject. What does the flag of Allah look like anyway? Is it pretty?
- Alex Sutherland, Siem Reap, Cambodia
All I wish to say is that if this man has such an issue with the United Kingdom then please do us all a favour and stop living off its benefits and go back home.
- Dan, London
If born here and you don't like England, leave. Quite simple really. As for the Luton demonstrations - disgusting behavior.
- Steve, London
The paradox of what he is suggesting is that the ability to demonstrate and call for these changes would be banned.
But hypocrisy doesn't seem to bother Mr Choudary!
- Stuart, UK
Unfortuantely for this gentleman's view, there are many elements of Sharia Law that run in contradiction to English Law.
- Coys Switz, switzerland
How can one who is presumably well educated (assuming he really is a lawyer) hold such views?
- Ian Gilbertson, Newcastle
How dare he say he wants to see the flag of Allah flying over Downing Street.
- Wq (Ex Pat), Frankfurt, Germany
If UK governments carry on leaving the door open to all cultures than this could well happen. Just where do such thoughts end!
- Tony Islander, Herts
It's time to put a stop to all this nonsense.
- Teddy, Islington, London
Colour, creed or religion don't bother me in the slightest, I am proud to live in a country that offers opportunity and sanctuary to those who genuinely need it. Howver, hypocrisy, intolerance and hatred of fellow men bother me greatly! In the UK we are proud to be a democracy and have freedom of speech, we should tell this man exactly what we think of him and his ideas and deport him.
- Mandy, Pitsea
why do we have to put up with this?
- Jim, london
