Study to allay GM food fears

Nicholas Cecil, Chief Political Correspondent
18 Mar 2009

GOVERNMENT scientists are to launch a new study into genetically modified foods which could be used to persuade the public that the foods are safe.

Trials of genetically modified crops in Britain have stalled because of public resistance and vandalism of the projects by opponents.

Now, the Government's chief scientific officer Professor John Beddington is to head a new study into feeding the world's growing population, to be carried out by the science think-tank the Foresight Institute, which analyses long-term issues.

Environment minister Jane Kennedy has signalled that the research may be used to make the case for GM foods.

One word: MORGELLONS.

No connection to GMOs, they say?

Have them prove it.

What the hell is wrong with these people. There is a clear majority not wanting that crap ending up on their plate in the UK and Europe so why are they still pushing it?!? These people only care about one thing: Money; and screw everyone whilst getting it. One must also note that the research is being carried out by a conservative think tank which is pro-free enterprise and thus completely biased in favor of patented GM seeds. These think tanks represent the interests of corporations not the people as they might want to make us believe.

How can you conduct a study to support a particular point of view? Isn't the whole point to remain neutral and go where the evidence leads? Sounds like the outcome of this study - like so much of the bogus "research" conducted by this government - has been determined in advance.

No to GM foods. What part of MY choice to reject GM food is the Government too stupid to understand? Don't forget that one of the few decent MPs in the Liebore Party, Michael Meacher, who was Minister of State for the Environment, opposed GM crops, whereas bliar was in favour, so which person would you believe and trust? QED.

He will never convince me that it is a good idea to eat a potato that has the genes of a mouse: somehow nature will have it's way in the end.

There is much literature identifying the bad things about GM foods, both commercial and healthwise. This is about giant fod companies like Monsanto, and the collusion of their supporters. Expect another whitewash and a finding supporting GM foods (poison).

They should have a look at Morgellon's Disease and its connection to GM food.
