'Bomb hoax' at Gatwick

A MAN was being questioned by police today after a report of a "suspicious device" sparked the evacuation of a plane at Gatwick Airport.

Police were alerted after a passenger found a note implying there may be a suspicious device on board the Emirates flight from Dubai 10 minutes before landing.

The Boeing 777 was safely landed and all 164 passengers and 18 crew were evacuated. The airport was closed to inbound and outbound planes for 15 minutes while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit searched the aircraft and luggage.

Sussex Police said a man in his twenties was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a bomb hoax. The airport was re-opened shortly after the incident yesterday.
