Rapist's legal aid attacked

Danny Brierley
24 Mar 2009

A RAPIST fighting deportation has been granted legal aid in his battle for custody of his eight-year-old son.

Parmod Arora, 45, has been allowed to employ a barrister and solicitors at taxpayers' expense for a case he has almost no chance of winning. Arora, who was jailed for seven years in 2001 for raping a 15-year-old girl in a shop in Hounslow, wants shared residency with the boy. His deportation case is being considered by the European Court of Human Rights after two appeals were rejected in British courts. His ex-wife, known only as Claudia to protect her son's identity, said: "It's madness."

The Legal Services Commission said the case met its legal merit test.

This is simple to solve: ask the barrister or solicitor if he would give his 8 yrs old child in custody to Mr.Arora. Then ask the judge the same question.

I expect that you have guessed the answer from each. So why spend taxpayer's money ?

This chaps conviction is well within the guidelines for deportation. He has had little family life with his son who seems to have born just before he started jail. Any application to the court would have been marginal even if he had not been a criminal but just an ordinary illegal immigrant. Of course all the delays in the case going through the court process has strengthened his case. The European Court are not idiots however so please keep us informed of this case as it trundles along.

This sums up the shambolic state of the UK! The amount of taxpayers money that will be wasted in legal fees, housing and benefits on this man will be enormous. Yet another terrible waste of money we don't have!!

So what's new? Seems any criminal can apply for legal aid - it's the innocents that are hanged out to dry. Legal system is all wrong. He should be deported after he serves his sentence - why should this low life get legal aid - I know I certainly wouldn't want him anywhere near my child (boy or girl).
