Five days, four countries

Evening Standard

THE Prime Minister will be travelling 17,591 miles over five days on his pre-G20 summit tour.

He visits France today for his first-ever speech to the European Parliament as premier.

The PM then flies to New York to hammer out details of the global economic rescue package before jetting down to South America.

He will meet Brazilian president Lula da Silva, one of the key figures on world trade, in the capital Brasilia.

Mr Brown will also meet fellow left-of-centre leaders at a "progressive governance" conference in Chile. The Chilean conference has already come in for criticism because it will take place in a hotel in the beach resort of Vina del Mar. The Chilean government is footing the bill.

"Ah, non!"
"Oh, wow. Here again?"
"Eh Lula! Can he samba?."
"Is a communist man, this Brown?"

Meanwhile, back home, the voters heave a sigh of relief and hope he might stay over there, forever.
