Dame Judi returns to stage after ankle sprain

DAME Judi Dench says she is thrilled to be back on the stage after her second fall in a month.

The actress returned last night to her role as the Madame de Montreuil in Madame de Sade, the latest Donmar Warehouse production in the West End.

She had missed four performances after tripping as she left the Wyndhams theatre last Thursday.

The 74-year-old actress was taken to hospital with a severely sprained ankle and was advised not to bring any weight to bear on her foot.

Dame Judi, who returned with the temporary help of a stick, said: "I am thrilled to be returning to Madame de Sade and would like to thank everyone for their support during this time."

The accident came three weeks after she fell at home in Hampstead, missing a day of rehearsals as a result.
