'Keeping Met on its toes: a guide'
Evening Standard31.03.09
G20 PROTESTERS have published a list of tactics to defeat police - including stringing lines between lamp posts to knock mounted officers off their horses.
The 10-point cut-out-and-keep guide "to keeping the Met on their toes" is printed in a newsletter sent to direct action protest groups ahead of the summit. Police fear that protests tomorrow involving a coalition of activists could spiral out of control and lead to rioting in the City. Activists in turn have accused the police and media of inflaming legitimate protests by warning of fears of violence.
Point six of the guide, published by Brighton-based direct action collective SchNEWS, says: "Horses: One tactic is stringing up lines between lamp posts." It also urges activists to wear shin pads on their arms to guard against police batons.

The point of stringing lines up is that the police wouldn't be stupid enough to run into them. It is NOT to hurt either the police or the horse when they charge, but to prevent them charging in the first place.
