Death camp suspect faces German trial

SUSPECTED Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk will arrive in Germany on Monday to face charges of involvement in the murders of 29,000 Jews during the Second World War.

Although Demjanjuk, 88, was cleared of being the guard known as "Ivan the Terrible" who herded women and children into the gas chambers of the Treblinka camp, prosecutors in Munich say they can prove instead that he supervised thousands of murders at the Sobibor camp in occupied Poland.

The Ukrainian-born retired Ford factory worker was extradited from America to Israel in 1986 and sentenced to death for his role at Treblinka. The conviction was overturned when new evidence showed another man was probably "Ivan" and Demjanjuk returned to his home near Cleveland, Ohio, in 1993.

The US justice department refiled its case in 1999 and Germany issued an arrest warrant three weeks ago. Demjanjuk denies any involvement in war crimes.

Why not try the now decrepit British war vets for murder too?Looking at the state of Britain today all their efforts were a complete waste of time.
There was a war on.
