Madonna
Brave face: close friends Madonna and Stella McCartney had dinner at Mayfair restaurant Cecconi’s last night

Stella night for Madonna after lost battle for Mercy

MADONNA has made her first public appearance since failing in her attempt to adopt an orphan in Malawi.

The singer had dinner in Mayfair with close friend Stella McCartney and appeared relaxed despite the blow delivered by a judge in the African country, who told her she could not become mother to Mercy, three. The meal at Cecconi's restaurant came the day after she arrived back in London following her surprise judicial defeat.

She had taken her adopted son David Banda, three, also from Malawi, with her to help her case but judge Esme Chombo ruled that she had not met a requirement to have been in the country for at least 18 months.

Virtually every person I speak to when this subject comes up thinks Madonna is a crazy mixed-up person who is just in it for her own self-aggrandisement. I think Joe from Brighton was right..we look forward to her residence in a poor village in Malawi. Just a thought, though - aren't there any poor little orphans in UK or in the USA...?

To Lorraine - and i suppose that kid would have a better life in an orphanage? With a father that cares so much that he only bothered to come forward the minute he realised that a rich person is interested for his kid? That speaks volumes too.

Same argument, same lack of thinking it through.

Celebrity children, to varying degrees are treated and cared for much the same as she does this child. So, your argument is that any celebrity should not be allowed to have children, either their own or adopted?

The boy didn't know his father? How old is the boy? How long since he saw his father? The boy should have it constantly jammed down his throat that he "doesn't really belong" with his adoptive parent? Good grief - a child's mind is not that of an adult in a child's body - it is still developing. They need reassurance; they need to feel safe; they need to feel wanted.

Cause and effect! They matter. Tell the child he really belongs somewhere else and he's going to think he isn't wanted by those taking care of him - is that what you want?

Madonna is so beautiful. I hope that she will win her appeal case and that she will be able to give to Mercy all the love she deserves.

Rogan - "Adequate mother to the children"??!! She's hardly ever with them!! and the fact that David didn't even know who his own father was when he went over to Africa (his own country) that speaks volumes. He should know where he comes from.

"Stella night for Madonna after lost battle for Mercy"

What? She was expected to stay at home feeling sorry for herself? So what if she went out!

Also, the adoption issue - everyone goes on about this woman's 'rich and famous' lifestyle and about how they don't like her. Again, so what! Doesn't anyone care whether she was an adequate MOTHER to children? The lack of evidence to the contrary suggests that there were no problems from that side of the question.

....and I don't even like the woman.

Am I the only person who was glad that Madonna never got to adopt little Mercy, not that I wouldn't have loved to see Mercy out of povery.I question why Madonna wants another pooor child to be dragged all over the world like a trophy, and being indcotrinated with her weird religon. Enough is enough Madonna. Just go away and leave us all in peace.

About time she realised money can't buy everything. I look forward to hear residing in Malawi for therequisite 18 months. Why doesnt she contribute to the community and many youngsters rather than remove another from its homeland to make her look 'saintly'. Tsk.
