The statement issued by the Met

Evening Standard
08.04.09

This was the statement issued by the Metropolitan Police on Wednesday 1 April at 11:36pm – four hours after the incident in Royal Exchange Passage (pictured right) that ended with Ian Tomlinson's death from a heart attack:

"A member of the public went to a police officer on a cordon in Birchin Lane junction with Cornhill to say that there was a man who had collapsed round the corner.

"That officer sent two police medics through the cordon line and into St Michael's Alley where they found a man who had stopped breathing. They called for LAS support at about 19.30.

"The officers gave him an initial check and cleared his airway before moving him back behind the cordon line to a clear area outside the Royal Exchange Building where they gave him CPR.

"The officers took the decision to move him as during this time a number of missiles —believed to be bottles — were being thrown at them.
LAS took the man to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"The Directorate of Professional Standards at both the MPS and City of London Police have been informed. The IPCC has been informed."

And this is the public body that some would like to entrust with ever intrusive surveillance powers, a universal DNA database, compulsory biometric ID cards, blanket CCTV monitoring?

How will the Met cover up this one. There is adequate evidence on tape for an early arrest. Now we know why the City Gestapo cover their faces. It is an assault ending in death so I expect to see that policeman in court soon on a charge of manslaughter. If he is not arrested and detained in a cell by Saturday then the law is no longer relevant in United Kingdom and the rule of violence in London begins. It gives every man, woman and child reason to carry a weapon to defend themselves from chance attacks by these hideous freaks of nature that masquerade as a legal authority.
