Protesters plan to march over news vendor's death

ACTIVISTS are planning a series of demonstrations after the death of newspaper vendor Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests.
Protesters and political activists are planning to march through the streets of London in the coming weeks after the 47-year-old died of a heart attack minutes after being attacked by officers at the G20 protests in the City two weeks ago.
Members of the Stop the War Coalition and the Socialist Workers Party met at a pub near Euston station to organise a demonstration involving up to 15,000 people under the banner of "Justice for Ian Tomlinson". Stop the War is already planning a protest today outside Scotland Yard's headquarters in Westminster.
One organiser said: "We have a right to protest without any fear of police brutality. What the police did to Ian Tomlinson was a crime and must be punished."
University of East London anthropologist Chris Knight, who was suspended by the university for "inciting violence" before the G20 protests, called for action and urged demonstrators to "take over the streets of London and picket police stations".
Representatives of Mr Tomlinson's family said the family would make a statement in the coming days about the "justice for Ian Tomlinson" campaign.

Well this might give the Met another opportunity to crack a few pinko heads.
The Home Office should purge the racists and secret police from the Police ranks once and for all, nothing but a complete declaration is going to mend the fences and restore trust in the police force

'More trouble'??? The only group causing troubles here have been the police, acting unlawfully and turning a peaceful protest into a confrontation. It beggars belief that for some all the blame is on the victims...

Sounds like an excuse to cause more trouble. I can foresee a day when our democratic right to protest will be scrapped because of troublemakers like Nicola Fisher and this lot.

Frank, Tomlinson was TRYING to get home and the cops wouldn't let him, that's the whole point! The cops lied and lied, they said they had no contact with Ian before he died, a lie. The cops said they were met with a 'barrage' of missiles. One plastic bottle was thrown about twenty feet away and the crown angrily cried to stop- a man was hurt. The cops said there was no CCTV, then they said there was, but it wasn't turned on, despite the police earlier having claimed to have viewed 'hours of CCTV tapes'. The evasion and dishonesty by the police is breathtaking. RIP Ian, you will not be forgotten and those implicated in your death will face justice.

Stop the War? What war?
Had Tomlinson gone home straight after work, like any sensible person, this would not be an issue. Instead he decided to become involved.
I withdraw my sympathy for him and his family.

So, one organiser said: "We have a right to protest without any fear of police brutality. What the police did to Ian Tomlinson was a crime and must be punished." Well what about the Police's right to police without the provocation, insults, spitting & violence from the so called law-abiding protesters? If the agitators didn't start roughing things up and causing criminal damage there would have been no need to get physical with the crowds. I suggest those with a grievance refer it to those who started the trouble then got out of the way.

No surprises here, the March of the Muppets.
How many deaths will these protesters be responsible for this time?
If the METS TSG officers have any sense they will go sick that day and leave an undeserving public and the idiots in Parliament to deal with the demonstrations themselves. Teach them all a few manners.

How do they manage to keep getting time off work for these protests? More public expenditure to bring in the police, and more inconvenience for the WORKING public yet again!
- Sue, Orpington, Kent
Glad that the protesters are not jumping to any preconceived conclusions and are sensibly awaiting the outcome of the IPC enquiry before taking any precipitate action. Its Alice in Wonderland - first the sentence and then the trial!

Please tell me when the next bash is,I want to meet Max and receive £50,000 smackers, luverly jubbly.

Excellent idea, I could do with some cash.
Has anyone got Max's phone number?

Two-faced Gormless Brown really believed he had pulled the rabbit out of the proverbial hat when he was shaking hands with all those world leaders at the G20 summit.
Unfortunately, Downing Street is now described as a "cesspit" and it takes Gormless no less than FIVE DAYS to say "sorry" for the emails balls-up under his watch.
Those who choose to protest now know the true measure of the police - those official thugs, dressed to kill innocent onlookers for no reason - and, I suspect, these demonstrations will become infinitely more violent.
Brown wants to declare a state of emergency well before the General Election - that is precisely why the Metropolitan Police and the Home Office and the rest of the security services are hyping up the "terror" plot in the UK.
The UK is currently in far more danger from the likes of Brown and MISS PIGGY SMIFF, Harman and Cooper et al, than they are from any real alleged terrorists.

I would love to know what is going to happen to the thug that broke the RBS window in the city - nothing I bet
I bet these are the same people that dial 999 when they need help!!!!
I agree with Rob, London that the police must change - yes they should be harder on these people (water cannons, rubber bullets etc) I have no time for these people

Chris Knight is reported to have wanted violence. why is he now complaining? Wasn't there enough?

Afghanistan, terror and the U.K.government.Bully boy tactics will not and arent working! How long will it be before U.K.is like other places the British gumbyment is trying to stamp its crass laws and beliefs on.The police are no longer public servants-they've totally lost my respect!

Well done to Mr. Knight and his colleagues. The police must change; they are behaving like an undisciplined and scared rabble. They lack leadership and professional standards; Sir Paul Stephenson needs to get a grip or get out.
- Rob, London
What a recipe for another majoe clash wirh more abuse of law and willful violence. The Hove dhould ban this gratuitous protest asap
- Keith Price, Luton, England
