Brown may be forced out before next election, says Labour peer

Nicholas Cecil, Chief Political Correspondent
20 Apr 2009

THE Cabinet may force out Gordon Brown ahead of the next election, a Labour peer claimed today, as the sleaze row engulfing the party refused to die down.

Lord Desai attacked the Prime Minister, saying the "smeargate" scandal, in which Mr Brown's aide Damian McBride sent an email proposing the use of lurid and unfounded stories against senior Tories, severely damaged him.

Writing in the Evening Standard, the peer said: "Gordon Brown's moral mask has been ripped off.

"His reputation for sound economics was destroyed even before the recession; McBride has destroyed his claim to sound politics."

If Labour suffers big losses, the party would have little time to choose a new leader through the usual procedures. Lord Desai even said the Liberal Democrats could overtake Labour, as Treasury spokesman, Vince Cable, "looked good" during the economic crisis.

"This may be the last Budget of this Government if Labour soldiers on with Brown; if they change horses they may live to fight another day," he said.

The Children's Secretary Ed Balls and Labour's general secretary Ray Collins had to deny allegations over the weekend as the "smeargate" furore continued.

Mr Balls was accused of holding weekly Downing Street meetings to advance his ambitions, while Mr Collins was faced with a report suggesting that he helped set up the Red Rag gossip website.

Difficulties for Labour also grew when the candidate selection for Erith and Thamesmead was called off after a ballot box was tampered with, amid suggestions that Georgia Gould, 22, daughter of polling guru Lord Gould, was being parachuted into the seat.

If the loony lefties in Labour choose that hapless, two-faced, female supremacist, equality minister, Harriet Harperson as their leader, which they might well do, then the Tories will do much better than if they choose a more sane piece of work.

I sincerely hope Brown is removed as soon as possible. This incompetent ruined our excellent final salary pensions, sold our gold at an extremely low price, and has ruined the economy. Pensioners with bank deposits have suffered a massive drop in income due to the reduction of interest rates to 0.5%, while mortgage payers are being subsidised by me. The chancellor today said that these people were on average £250 per month better off!

A senior Labour peer says what the whole country thinks, the moral mask has been ripped off Brown's face. The Brown pretence about a moral compass, which in fact pointed to directing that obsene lies be invented to destroy the wives and families of opponents. There is no doubt people know Brown was fully aware of what McBride (Scot) had done and was trying to do in secret. Brown hired him for his 'talents'. Brown saying 'I am angry when I heard what happened', was his anger at being caught, Labour Head of Stategy McBride being exposed and showing what sort of people head Labour. It gives the lie to all claims of 'Labour are for the people', honest and fair. Labour are seen as people like Sharon Matthews.

I have read time and time again the old phrase ' Get Brown out before there is a revolution' but nothing happens. This is a serious question... What do the people need to do constructively to rid the UK of Gordon Brown as its un-elected prime minister? I don't mean waiting until a general election and voting him out. I mean now. OUT WITH BROWN means nothing unless we know how to do it but HOW?

I will no longer vote! They say you should vote to have your voice heard and to make a difference. Personally it doesnt seem to matter what anyone thinks or has to say. The government whoever is in charge does whatever they want and the tax payer pays for the government. It is still appalling to me that we have to pay so much tax for so much little in return! We wouldn't pay £10 for a a cadbury's chocolate bar so why should we pay hundreds of pounds for nothing visible back! We can all quote statistics and make everything look better but try saying that to someone paying thousands of pounds over years and still spending the whole day waiting around in a hospital!

No way will the leeches vote him out of his office!

They will hang on until the last possible legal moment before they give up the trappings of office!

They/we know that they will be turfed out of office at the next election!

They will rip every last penny from the coffers of Joe Public, and make sure their scorched earth policies will leave the new government with no other option but to implement harsh policies to restore the fiscal stability of sinking HMS great Britain!

On the other hand, on reflection, maybe they will get back into power, seeing as how Joe Public on average is as thick as two short planks, with the memory & attention span of a mushroom!......Yeah!......They just might get back into power after all!

The next government elected in this country should bring in retrospective laws to bring to justice MPs of all persuasions who have stolen monies from the public purse, just as they do now to ordinary citizens of our country. This lot decide the rules on there own pay ,and expense payments, they can't lose ,can they? Any political party that advocates

this course of action will romp home . Brown has destroyed our economy , he's even managed to put in to debt unborn kids , There is no one in the labour party who has the guts to tell him to go. I think I know why they will not stand up to him, and that is to stand up one needs a back bone, and this lot are spineless. They all know they will not win any future election, but they still persist in making the country and it's people suffer.Their disgraceful action will never be forgotten or forgiven by the people of our broken nation.

Of course Brown should go, but relying either upon the wimps in his Government to lead a rebellion, or the passive flock of sheep known collectively as Labour MPs to pass a vote of no confidence, is a triumph of hope over experience. We have had all the brave talk before, but there is never any action. Unfortunately the country is saddled with this disaster of a PM for at least another year. In the meantime as the well-heeled, superbly comfortable and oily smooth Lord Mandelson advises - Cheer up. Things could be worse - Lord Mandelson could be in charge.

Gordon Brown has proved to be among the worst Prime Ministers this country has ever had and his government is full of completely incompetent, self-seeking and greedy hypocrites who care not a jot for the people who elected them, nor for traditional Labour values, and who have run the country into the ground. Moral compass? Pull the other one. Their only ambition - to cling on to power - is now, thankfully, a dead duck. Good. I really do hope that after the Summer Parliamentry break that there is an understairs plotting to remove Pa Broone. Like Thatcher before him for the Conservatives, Brown is an electoral liability not only for the Labour Party, but for the UK in general. If there is a leadership contest to oust Brown, then there also has to be a general election called as well. I for one would not tolerate another unelected Labour 'Dear Leader' trying to run the country on top of the ones that are already are screwing up the UK.

Lord Desai is absolutely right, As Chancellor and Prime Minister Gordon Brown was centre-stage with regard to economic matters for over a decade and must take responsibility for the current situation.

With regard to politics, he was SELECTED, not ELECTED, as leader of the Labour Party, and thus automatically made Prime Minister. With hindsight we can see that the reason he was unopposed was that his cabal of supporters had spun, smeared and plain lied about potential opponents within the Labour Party in order to ensure his victory. This group included Damian McBride, Charlie Whelan, Derek Draper, Ed Balls, Liam Byrne and Tom Watson.

His hubris meant that his acceptance speech was notable for his repeated references to his 'values';

http://www.labour.org.uk/leadership/gordon_brown

As Lord Desai so vividly makes clear,
"Gordon Brown's moral mask has been ripped off"

Now, we finally know his values, the political company that he keeps in his inner circle, and the public can finally see him for what he is and judge him accordingly!

It’s taken them this long to see this? Labour WILL loose the next election but by how many seats will rely on who’s at the helm. Brown’s incompetence both as chancellor and PM shows He’s not ‘fit for purpose’. He has surrounded himself with ‘yes’ people and in doing so is systematically destroying all that his party has
stood for. In-turn some of these ‘yes’ people have also shown their contempt for the electorate in how they have conducted themselves [expenses, etc]. Unless He and his like are not removed and soon, Labour could end up being the third place party sitting in parliament.
Personally, I welcome the delay and hope He is left in place ensuring the inevitable defeat of this party but hope that the Conservatives are learning that the British voter needs to see a new system of government
in place.
One that is open and beyond reproach?
