The pledge: We will act immediately

Evening Standard
21 Apr 2009

What the Mayor's manifesto said:

“London does not have enough Rape Crisis Centres because of woefully inadequate funding from the Labour Government. We will call upon the Government to provide extra funding for this vital service. Additionally, we will act immediately to provide long-term funding for four Rape Crisis Centres in London. We would provide funding for these centres by cutting the number of GLA spin doctors. To secure the funding for this centre and three others would require ringfencing of around £744,000 annually.”

What his office said today:

"The Mayor is determined that all women in London who need them have access to rape crisis services. To do this he first needs to know where the gaps in service provision are and where to focus funding. He is consulting widely with partners, organisations and Londoners through his Violence Against Women Strategy as well as carrying out a thorough needs assessment. Once both these results are available he and his team will be able to identify the best places to direct funding for rape crisis provision.”

'We will act immediately'. That will have been last May, then.

This doesn't sound like a complete NO to me.
