City advisers revealed

Paul Waugh, Deputy Political Editor

THE key City financiers who have guided the Government's bank rescue plan were named today.

Among the string of outsiders who have been hired by Alistair Darling to help shape the numbers on his balance sheet as he prepares to present his second Budget are employees of Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse and Citigroup.

The Credit Suisse team is headed by James Leigh-Pemberton, the bank's chief executive and the son of Sir Robin Leigh-Pemberton (now Lord Kingsdown), the former Governor of the Bank of England. It also includes Sebastian Grigg, a contemporary of David Cameron at Oxford.

Tadhg Flood, who advised Barclays on its failed bid for ABN Amro, is part of the Deutsche Bank team working with the Treasury.

It is believed that Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank have already taken £60 million in return for their advice.

Bend your ears back for reams of spin and waffle by Darling in the budget speech today.

Of course, the budget speech will have been masterminded by none other than Gormless Brown - the worst Prime Minister ever.

Darling is as incompetent as the rest of the bunch of clowns in power.

The ONLY thing Brown, Darling, MISS PIGGY SMIFF, Balls, Cooper, Keen et al know is how to manage their obscene expenses claims.

So the guy that advised barclays to buy doomed bank ABN is considered to be the right guy to advise the government on how to rescue the economy? I have no faith in Mr Darling if he thinks that is a wise appointment

- Ag, London Village

Barclay's bid for ABN certainly 'failed'. RBS completely won the day on that one didn't they!
