ANYONE wanting their chance of an hour's glory on the Fourth Plinth of Trafalgar Square gets the chance to apply from today.

Broadcaster Vanessa Feltz and poet Lemn Sissay are among those hoping to star in Antony Gormley's giant art project.

He is looking for 2,400 people to take part in One & Other, his plan to put hundreds of members of the public on the vacant plinth between 6 July and 14 October.

A camera will broadcast a live feed online in a sponsorship deal with television channel Sky Arts.

More than 22,000 people initially expressed interest in joining the venture.

Applications can be made online and the first selection draw will be on 1 June.

I agree with Frank actually; there is a health and safety factor here to consider with Vanessa; who would hold the ladder etc; how many would be needed to steady the ladder; is the ladder made of toughened steel; or would it be safer to use a crane with her instead etc.

I think it might be better to just put sleeping bags on the plinth for MPs to sleep in over night, when they pop into London now and again; at least it would be cheap; and they don’t come any cheaper than MPs.

John, you probably could sublet but you'd have to get public liability insurance and a temporary landlord's certificate, install a fire escape, have emissions assessments and safety checks and a HIPS.

I only really need 15 minutes of fame - could I sub-let the other 45?

Vanessa Feltz? I am not sure that the plinth is going to be all that sturdy!
