Louise Jury, Chief Arts Correspondent21.04.09
Grace Jones, Lily Allen and The Ting Tings will join this summer's programme of live concerts at Somerset House.
The popular open-air venue announced the first acts for its line-up today.
Jones, who won rave reviews for her appearance at last year's Meltdown festival, will open proceedings on 9 July.
Australian drum'n'bass act Pendulum and indie band Athlete will appear later in the season, which runs until 18 July. Tickets go on sale on Thursday. More acts will be announced this month.
Amy Winehouse and Robert Plant are among those to have played in the courtyard in recent years.

I would adore seeing her at Somerset House... I have seen her in Brussels last March ( sold-out in 5 days, 2000 people ) and it was sooo great : I had the big chance to dance, with few others, on stage and...kiss her. Her new album "Hurricane" is beautifull, I hope now to see her back in nice movies.

Grace Jones has recently released the best album of her career and done a sell out UK and Europe wide tour. What stone have you been living under?

Grace Jones is an icon and what she has done in the last year is realease a new album, Hurricane, which I personally LOVE. Anyway, why should she have to be DOING anything? There's no law that says people have to be doing things all the time is there? Doesn't look like she was sat stuffing McDs and watching Jerry Springer whatever it was. She looks amazing, has a great voice, and writes strong, meaningful lyrics - unlike the formulaic girl band freak shows flashing their knickers and singing playground chants to synthetic beats. We should be celebrating women like Grace Jones.
