Hospital £2m glass roof blunder

Ruth Bloomfield
23.04.09

UP to £2million is to be spent replacing a glazed atrium ceiling at London's newest children's hospital after builders installed "the wrong sort of glass".

More than 600 two-metre-square glass panes must be removed from the roof at the Evelina Children's Hospital in Westminster.

Hospital chiefs today insisted the ill-fitting panes do not present a danger but admitted there was a risk of them leaking.

A spokesman said the fault lay with contractor MJ Gleeson, which did not comment.

Can someone tell me where the problem lies ? The builder made a mistake. So just phone him and tell him to come and change the glass !

Or is that too inteligent and too much to ask for....but I bet that the glass put in was cheaper !

Further evidence Labour are not deserving of a Commons majority, and voting for them in Westminster North will only ensure it continues. The Tories must be supported there, but voting Tory in eg Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush is likely by contrast to give the Tories their own majority, so Labour must be backed there to block them.

Agree with Nigel, if it's an error on the part of the contractor then it's their liability - not exactly earth-shattering (*cough*).

If the fault lies with the contractor, is this really a story? Sue them, if they don't admit liability, fix the building, and make a reasonable offer of compensation for the inconvenience.

- Nigel, London

Who was supposed to be checking the build and specifications?
