£60 designer dress sells out before it hits the shelves

Stocks of a £60 designer leopard-print Debenhams dress sold out before it had arrived on the shelves.

The department store's website was overwhelmed by customers as they ordered all 1,000 of the one-shoulder mini dresses after they were unveiled at a fashion launch two weeks ago.

Debenhams said it had never seen a reaction like it and has ordered more supplies of the dress, which is part of the shop's Star by Julien Macdonald collection. Director of design Karen Peacock said: "We're seeing the emergence of recession chic. The wealthy are watching the pennies - but still want to look good."

Yeah, keep off Reuben's back.

- David, London

Leave Reuben alone, he's entitled to his opinion. I wouldn't pay £60 for the dress but I'm just tight and wouldn't want to liberate the moths residing in my purse!

- Goggs, London

Reuben you are in your 70s - what would you know about the cost of women's clothing? Go and get a job or something and stop posting comments all the time.

- Vanda, London UK

I'm staggered - not by the dress selling out but by Reuben's comment that nobody in their right mind would pay £60 for a skimpy dress? Where has he been for the last decade?

- Mandy, London

Obviously there are many peeps in the UK who still have more money than sense.

NOBODY in their right mind would pay £60 for a skimpy dress, no matter who designed it.

The UK has gone stark-staring bonkers.
