Susan Boyle

Just like her, it’s so wrong it’s right

As makeovers go, Boyle's is hardly dramatic. The drab greige trousers are the sort your mum might have embarrassed you with when she dropped you off at school.

The white bib-fronted blouse is very Chloé, albeit Chloé circa 2005. And the leather — or it may well be “pleather” — jacket is the same bland sort of garment that could have been worn by Francis Rossi, Phil Collins or Jessie Wallace at any time over the past 10 years. But none of this matters a jot, for this is Susan Boyle, the nation's sweetheart and the voting people's princess.

The biggest change is Boyle's hair, now dyed a rich chestnut brown instead of its former Brillo pad grey. Either Boyle or those around her know that her trump card is her lack of glamour, and while the public might be baying for a Cinderella-style transformation, Boyle's advisers are surely aware that it would be madness for her to peak too early. Were Boyle to have surfaced in anything more chic than grey trousers and a leather jacket, she would have killed her charm stone dead.

This is precisely why Boyle's new “makeover” is pitch-perfect: subtle, unpretentious and in high fashion terms, completely wrong. Just like Boyle herself, it's so wrong, it's right — right for the times, and right for a country that feels everyday, ordinary people have been neglected for far too long.

Susan needs a bit highlights in her hair. Why the glasses? Susan's eyes are allways shining. Allways a twinkle in her eyes! The coulour of her jacket is wrong, it must be a bit soft orange, it fits by her teint. Susan is a huge personality and very smart! No plastic! No fake answers! Susan your voice is incredible! and cry me a river is sooo beautiful! Land of Hope and Glory is the perfect song for Susan!! Susan I wish you a bit career, and what is age? Tina Turner turns 70 and Madonna is 50, and a lot of movey stars are your age! So 48 is very young!!

Am interested to know what the real Burberry people will do about the fake scarf.
