Almost three quarters of children in England are failing to do enough exercise, the Government revealed today.

Figures from the Department of Health show 72 per cent of schoolchildren do not get 60 minutes of daily exercise outside school and 45 per cent watch TV or play computer games before school.

Only 22 per cent do something active after their evening meal.Health experts recommend children should do at least an hour's exercise every day. More than 260,000 families took part in the survey as part of anti-obesity campaign Change4Life.

Dawn Primarolo, minister for public health, said: “If we're going to cut obesity levels our children need to be active for at least 60 minutes a day. By eating better and moving more, we can all live longer and healthier lives. With support from Change4Life this can be a reality for every family.” “England.”
