£4m true blue diamond for sale
Danny Brierley27 Apr 2009
One of the rarest precious stones in the world went on show in London today before it is sold at auction next month.
The vivid blue diamond is expected to fetch between £4 million and £6 million at Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva on 12 May.
The gem, described as internally flawless, owes its distinctive colour to the presence of the element boron during the stone's formation. It was discovered last year in South Africa. The diamond will be on show until tomorrow at Sotheby's in New Bond Street.
David Bennett of Sotheby's said: “Blue diamonds are among the rarest of all nature's treasures.”
