Robbery in first class train thief threatens businessman and escapes with laptop and cash
29 Apr 2009A businessman is robbed of his laptop, BlackBerry, cash and credit cards as he works in the first-class carriage of a train.
The 41-year-old was working on his laptop when he was threatened by the thief who sat opposite him on a Waterloo to Reading commuter train.
The suspect, pictured here, claimed he had a knife before calmly packing the items into the businessman's suitcase and walking off.
The robbery took place on 12 January as the train was travelling between Staines and Egham. The thief left the train at Staines.
The suspect is 5ft 11in, aged 20-26 and wearing a dark jacket with a hood and dark trousers.
Anyone who recognises the man should call British Transport Police on 0800 405040.

Why does it always take months for these pictures to come out? Who's going to remember seeing somebody on a train in January? This should have been in the press a week after the offence was reported.

knock knock knock, I am glad most of the people leaving comments are not in the Police.
There are many reason why the photo was only released recently and you are privy to none.
It is time to stop putting the Police down and give them support.
Just a final note, I doubt the perpetrator has changed much in 12 weeks so he is clearly going to still be identifiable!

As Alan has already pointed out, this offence will not attract a custodial sentence. If he nsays he's sorry and promises not to do it again this week, it'll be a caution and, possibly, a meaningless little fine.

and even if he is caught, what then..a community order, slap on the wrist...what, as the way I see it these scumbags don't get punished enough. We should be able to travel without fear of being mugged, attacked or threatened. We pay through the nose for sub-standard service. Additionally, are these camera's monitored? It's all very well having them there as a deterent, however, they're not much use if there's an appeal 3months later. There should be some way of raising the alarm in instances such as this. Hope they catch the waste of space responsible.

Lets all move to a country like Luxembourg.
You can sleep with your doo open.
Am soo sorry for this to happen to this hard working gentleman.
Government should enforce proper punishment (check out how crime is punished in Ghana). Hard labour all the way

What's the point of appealing for witnesses now, three months after the incident?
BLOODY USELESS!

Gary, Amersham: "Lucky the Police released these photo's so quickly."
They delayed releasing this image - now the crime will appear in the 2009-10 statistics!
It is called "cooking the books".

This is unbelievable! What possesses these boys to do things like this from hard-working people. Instead of thieving from the innocent, why don't they get themselves a job and they could pay for it themselves (and hopefully get mugged too).
